Chaired the regional United Way Campaign three times, the first person to do such. Member and Sunday School Teacher for High School at First United Methodist Church. Former Chairman of the board of the Regional Educational Laboratory board, and Chair of the Board for the Free Medical Clinic in Lee County as well as former Chair of Tupelo Community Theatre, The Northeast MS United Way, and former president of the Tupelo Kiwanis Club. Named Parent of the Year for the Tupelo Public School System in 2003 and received the Jack Reed Advocacy award for Education in 2006.

Married to the former Catherine Reed, two sons, two daughter-in-laws, two grandsons, and one granddaughter.
